Please introduce your company briefly.

Vandalsoft is a software development company established in Seoul in 2017. In order to produce edible insects more efficiently, we have developed IoT Twinstarfarm, which we used smart farm technology. We have a vision of eliminating deprivation and leaving only abundance, and we are running our business through a mission to solve difficulties in real life by creating smart products in simple ways.

The existing edible insect breeding method had a problem that the production was low and too much labor was required. By introducing an automated breeding method, we could reduce the time required for breeding edible insects and increase production by 50%.

Please describe the main system.

IoT Twinstarfarm is a device that automatically breeds edible insects based on IoT technology. It is currently optimized for two-spotted crickets, and it can be applied to various other species. Water supply, light, and temperature required for breeding edible insects are automatically managed based on edible insect breeding algorithms, and it can be monitored and controlled remotely through the application.

Twinstarfarm Connect is an application that manages IoT Twinstarfarm, allowing you to check the breeding status at a glance and remotely control the factors related to breeding (water, light, temperature, etc.). Also, it helps to build a database according to the growth stages (hatching, breeding, and collection) of edible insects to derive optimized edible insect breeding methods through AI.

What are your plans for the future?

We want to sell our products to the US and European markets. Some countries in the US and Europe are having difficulty raising edible insects due to expensive labor costs, and the climate in the area is often not suitable for insect breeding, causing the death of insects. By installing Vandalsoft’s edible insect smart farm device, we want to reduce labor costs and increase production.

We are also going to launch Vandal Switch, a lower-priced version of IoT Twinstarfarm. It plays the role of making a smart farm device simply by attaching it to the existing edible insect breeding device. Compared to existing breeding equipment, it is cheaper and has good compatibility, so it can be attached to various breeding equipment.

Do you have any countries in your mind for export?

Currently, we have established an office in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, signed an MOU worth 5 million dollars with a Vietnamese edible insect company, formed a partnership through an MOU with major universities and companies, and we are working hard to enter the Southeast Asian market.

We are also planning to enter Northern Europe. Northern Europe has many difficulties in breeding edible insects because the annual average temperature is not high and the labor costs are high. We are trying to solve such problems by introducing smart farm technology, and we are preparing to enter the European market through cooperation with local livestock companies.

Any last words you would like to say?

Vandalsoft is a company that develops IoT, big data, and smart farms, which are the core of Industry 4.0 With the data collected from farms, we can train the AI to come up with the optimized breeding method, and aim to raise healthier edible insects that are in the spotlight as alternative food for the future. We aim to contribute to creating a brighter future by developing various technologies as well as edible insects.

Seoul Food Startup Center, which participated in MIK HOT SPOT (Made in Korea Online Exhibition) is providing support to the agri-food-related companies come up with innovative ideas and new products.
